saigoncafetravelIf you are a big fan of camping, there is no reason for missing out Vietnam national parks, the most popular camping sites, namely Cuc Phuong National Park, Ba Be National Park and Bach Ma National Park. Besides, when hiking or trekking in the jungle or through hill tribe villages in mountainous areas, it is highly likely that you have recourse to camping to experience adventurous nights in these natural beauties. Hiking trips to Fansipan Peak, which is dubbed “the Roof of Indochina”, also promise once in the life time camping experience.

Yet, the universal question put forward is that how to prepare for a camping trip in Vietnam? Or What I should prepare for a camping in Vietnam?

If you book a hiking tour accompanied with camping with your travel agents, they are certain to let you know in advance the camping places and generally tents and camping equipments are provided by local travel agents or tour operators. What you should not forget to prepare are foods, water, first aid kit and suitable clothes. To be more careful, it is advisable to bring a reflector, a whistle, high-energy food, raincoats, hats, mittens and extra socks. If you are independent traveler, you should prepare all necessary things for a camping as in Vietnam, you would find it hard to buy camping equipments and other essential things. Otherwise, here are some places that you could find your necessities:

Ho Chi Minh City: Dan Sinh Market, Distric 1; Saigon Square 77-89 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, District 1.
Hanoi: Pham Ngu Lao Street; Hang Khay Street.

Regarding clothing, cotton is not an ideal material for camping as it takes such a long time to dry so that you could easily get sick if wearing wet clothes. And the fact is that Vietnam is a tropical country, you would find it hard to avoid rains. For safety reasons, you are supposed to avoid rainy seasons as during this period, the weather is humid and heavy rains could suddenly show up to destroy your happy journeys. Vietnam does not have harsh winters with the temperature being below 00C, but it should be noted that there is no heater at all and the bitter cold of chili winds could easily discourage the enthusiasm of many travelers coming from sunny countries. Accordingly, just remember to check weather forecasts and overviews about destination weather before you go.

Insects, especially mosquitoes, leeches and snakes are biggest wildlife concerns in Vietnam. The easiest way to cope with these matters is to wear long-sleeves shirts and pants instead of shirts with short sleeves and shorts. Besides, insect repellent should be brought with you and it is obligatory to bring medical kit.
